Raipur: Royal Challengers Bengaluru climbed to the top of the points table after defeating Mumbai Indians in a thrilling match on Sunday night in Indian Premier League 2026. With one more victory, the team is set to officially secure a playoff berth. RCB also made a winning start at their new home ground in Raipur.
However, following the match, Royal Challengers Bengaluru head coach Andy Flower was fined by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Flower was penalised for aggressively questioning the fourth umpire over an on-field decision during the match. He was found guilty of breaching Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct. As a result, the IPL governing body imposed a fine of 15 per cent of his match fee.
The incident occurred after a controversial third-umpire decision in the 18th over, when RCB was denied a boundary. Along with Dinesh Karthik, Flower approached the fourth umpire and argued that the decision was incorrect. The league later concluded that Flower had crossed the line during the exchange.
In an official statement, the IPL said: “Royal Challengers Bengaluru head coach Andy Flower has been fined 15 per cent of his applicable match fee for breaching Level 1 of the IPL Code of Conduct for players and team officials. Andy was found to have violated Article 2.3, which relates to the use of audible obscenity during a match. The incident took place during the 17.2 over mark when Andy engaged in an aggressive conversation with the fourth umpire,” the statement said.
In the match played in Raipur, Mumbai Indians posted 166 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Royal Challengers Bengaluru successfully chased the target, scoring 167 runs while losing eight wickets.
