On Saturday, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran issued a stern warning to American installations in the Persian Gulf. They stated that any aggressive actions against Iranian oil tankers or commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz would provoke a "severe attack" on US military bases and ships in the region. This warning was shared in a post on X, emphasizing that any aggression towards Iranian vessels would lead to significant retaliation against US assets.
Following this, the IRGC Aerospace Force announced in a separate post that their missiles and drones have already targeted US bases and enemy ships in the area, and they are awaiting orders to fire. The post indicated that the IRGC's missile and drone capabilities are ready to strike if necessary. These statements come amid escalating tensions following gunfire between the US Navy and Iranian forces near the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global energy transit route.
US-Iran Naval Engagement
On Thursday, former President Trump confirmed the gunfire exchange between US and Iranian naval forces in the Strait of Hormuz, despite a ceasefire agreement between the two sides. He claimed that three US destroyers successfully navigated the strategic waterway, even as they were fired upon by Iranian forces. In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that the US Navy's destroyers passed through the Strait of Hormuz "very successfully" despite the hostile actions from Iranian military.
