In Ghazipur, weddings are celebrated as a joyous occasion filled with customs and laughter, not just a union of two individuals. One such tradition is the 'shoe theft' ritual, where sisters-in-law hide the groom's shoes and demand a gift in return. However, an unexpected turn of events unfolded in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur district, leading to a bitter end to the festivities. The groom became so enraged over the shoe theft that he returned home empty-handed, without his bride.
The incident took place in the Kasmabad police station area. On Wednesday night, a wedding procession arrived from a village in the Mardah police jurisdiction to Rajbhar Basti. Initially, everything was festive, with the bride's family warmly welcoming the guests, performing door worship, and completing the seven rounds amidst Vedic chants.
The trouble began after the wedding rituals concluded and preparations were underway to take the bride and groom to the 'Kohbar'. According to tradition, the sisters-in-law hid the groom's shoes and began demanding a gift. Witnesses reported that amidst the playful banter, the groom suddenly lost his temper. He not only became upset but also started behaving rudely towards the sisters-in-law and the bride's family.
Concerns Over Groom's Mental State, Bride Refuses to Leave
The groom's behavior cast a shadow over the wedding celebrations, leading to silence among the guests. The bride's family and villagers began to question the groom's mental state, fearing that if he couldn't handle a light-hearted tradition, he would struggle to keep their daughter happy in the future. Tensions escalated quickly between both parties, resulting in a heated argument. The bride's family firmly decided that they would not send their daughter away with such a person.
Police Intervention and Groom's Return Without Bride
The Kasmabad police arrived at the scene and made several attempts to mediate and resolve the conflict. While the presence of law enforcement helped calm the situation, the bride and her family remained resolute in their decision. Ultimately, the groom had to leave the wedding procession without his bride. Currently, the groom's family is trying to reconcile through social channels and police intervention to salvage their reputation and facilitate the bride's departure. However, the bride's family stands firm in their decision.
