John Foster is an antiques specialist and regular expert valuer on the BBC programme. The on-screen star works with the Miscellaneous team on Antiques Roadshow and his particular interests include furniture, antiquities, British coins, scrimshaw, medical instruments, classic cars and motorbikes.
Aside from his main interests, the expert revealed there is one rare object worth a staggering six figures but the chances of locking them down are slim. In a candid chat with the BBC, John revealed the one thing he would love to see at Roadshow.
The TV specialist said it would have to be a double leopard gold coin. There are only three known and are worth an eye-watering £700,000.
John began his career in 1989 at Phillips auction house, later becoming a director at Dreweatt Neate and a partner at Sworders Fine Art Auctioneers before becoming an independent valuer.
He has appraised unusual items on the show, such as a rare set of 19th-century porcelain dentures and a corkscrew made from the wood of the old London Bridge.
John's interest in antiques began as a child, when he spent summers diving on shipwrecks with his father.
