Prince Harry pushed Princess Catherine to her "limits" with his bombshell BBC News interview last year, a royal expert has claimed in his upcoming novel. During the May 2025 interview, in which the Duke of Sussex discussed the health of his estranged father, King Charles, "the damage was done," royal expert Christopher Andersen wrote in an excerpt from his upcoming novel, Kate! The Courage, Grace, and Power of the Woman Who Will Be Queen.

During the shock interview with the BBC, during which he spoke about his prospects of returning to the UK, relationship with his family and anger at losing his right to automatic full security protection when visiting from the US, Prince Harry said he did not know "how much longer my father has," which made the Princess of Wales "more disappointed than angry," the exerpt reads. "Princess Catherine is 'the sweetest, most loving person you could ever know,' said a Sandringham staffer, 'but like everyone else, she has her limits,'" another excerpt reads.

During the interview, Prince Harry, 40 at the time, referred to his father's cancer diagnosis in February 2024, According to Mr Andersen, the topic struck a nerve with Catherine, who was diagnosed with cancer herself a month later. According to the expert, she bonded with her father-in-law because of it.

"I think Kate's relationship with her father-in-law over their shared cancer battles really has made her much more sensitive to King Charles's feelings," Mr Andersen said. "She knows better than anyone that having someone publicly imply you may be at death's door is horribly demoralising."

"I'm sure Kate must have felt stung by that comment as well, since she is in a situation very similar to the King's," he added.

Mr Andersen also claimed that the Princess of Wales was always the "level-headed one" in the family feud and attempted to bridge the widening gap between the brothers," but Harry's comments about Charles changed her stance. Afterwards, she sided with her husband, who was allegedly furious about his brother's interview.

"But William, who had already slammed the door shut on his brother over what Harry wrote in 'Spare,' was, in the words of a courtier, 'apoplectic' with rage," he wrote. "Now it was time to nail the door shut once and for all, and for the first time Kate, who had worked harder than anyone to mend the rift between the brothers, willingly handed her husband a hammer."

According to US Weekly, Mr Andersen said he does not foresee Harry and Catherine "having any sort of relationship" going forward. "At least not for the foreseeable future," he added.

The Express has contacted The Office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for comment.
