The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has released a report named ‘Crime in India 2024’, in which a truth has come to light in the metropolitan cities which will surprise. It is said about cities that cities are more liberal and progressive than villages, hence there are less cases of dowry harassment.
This report of NCRB will surprise you. Cities like Bengaluru and Lucknow also have hundreds of cases of dowry harassment. Serious cases of dowry harassment have also come to light in cities like Lucknow, Chennai and Hyderabad. Even the metropolitan cities have not been able to get out of the tradition of dowry system.
How many cases of dowry harassment in which city?
According to the ‘Crime in India 2024’ report, a total of 1,008 dowry cases were registered across all major cities of the country. Of these, 878 cases are from Bengaluru alone, which is about 87 percent. Lucknow is at second place, where only 48 cases were registered. Bengaluru tops the list of dowry cases among big cities across the country. There were 25 deaths due to dowry in Bengaluru in 2024.
There were 109 deaths due to dowry in Delhi, but no such deaths were reported in South Indian cities like Chennai, Kozhikode, Kochi and Coimbatore. 14 dowry deaths were recorded in Hyderabad.
Crime against women increased in Bengaluru
Bengaluru also leads in crimes against women. 1,051 cases were registered here under special and local laws. 897 cases of molestation or outraging the modesty of women were reported in Bengaluru. 857 cases were reported in Mumbai.
What is the condition of the states?
In Karnataka, 2,947 cases of domestic violence by husband or in-laws were registered. 21,266 women became victims of domestic violence in UP, 10,578 women in Rajasthan and 10,538 women in Maharashtra. Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of such cases in the entire country.
