US President Donald Trump
America has taken strict action against international companies supplying arms to Iran. According to the information, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on 10 people and companies. These also include companies present in China and Hong Kong. They are accused of helping Iran's army in purchasing weapons and raw materials, which are used in Iran's 'Shahid Drone Programme'. In its statement, the Treasury said it stood ready to take further economic steps against Iran's military-industrial network. Its purpose is to prevent Tehran from rebuilding its production capacity and expanding its influence beyond its borders. He also warned that foreign companies and financial institutions that are helping Iran's illicit trade could face further sanctions. These also include companies associated with China's independent “teapot” oil refineries.
Ban imposed on these companies
US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said the administration would continue to target foreign companies that supply Iran's military. He further said that under the leadership of President Donald Trump, Washington will take steps to “keep America safe” and stop the flow of weapons used against US forces. The companies on which sanctions have been imposed include Yushita Shanghai International Trade Co Ltd of China, Elite Energy FZCO of Dubai, HK Hesin Industry Co Ltd and Mustad Ltd of Hong Kong, Armory Alliance LLC of Belarus, Pishgam Electronic Safeh Co of Iran, and Hitex Insulation Ningbo Co Ltd of China, etc. This step has been taken just a few days before US President Donald Trump's visit to China. Trump is going to talk to President Xi Jinping during this tour. Additionally, this move comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to end the current conflict involving Iran, which are currently on hold.
Iran makes 10 thousand drones every month
Officials said that the purpose of this action is to hamper Iran's ability to threaten maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz. It is a vital global energy corridor that has faced several disruptions since regional tensions escalated earlier this year. According to the UK-funded Center for Information Resilience, Iran is a major drone maker and is estimated to produce up to 10,000 drones every month. However, analysts also said that these sanctions are largely targeted, and may give Tehran time to use alternative supply channels for its purchases.
