The political turmoil regarding government formation in Tamil Nadu has intensified. Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), alleging that the Vijay-led party tried to show that it had the support of AMMK by using an alleged fake support letter.
This controversy has arisen over the support of AMMK’s sole MLA S Kamaraj, on which both the parties are at loggerheads. Earlier, AMMK chief TTV Dhinakaran had alleged that TVK had handed over a “fake copy” of Kamaraj’s letter to the Governor and warned of legal action in the matter.
TVK released the video
In response to these allegations, TVK released a video. In this video, Kamaraj himself is allegedly seen writing a letter, in which he is talking about supporting TVK. The video was released through ANI and widely shared by TVK leaders. In this, Kamaraj is also seen saying that he has given this support with the approval of AMMK General Secretary Dhinakaran.
TVK accused Dhinakaran of spreading misinformation, especially when he refused any official support. The party said in its statement that Kamaraj has written the letter of support willingly and now to say that the letter is fake is completely contrary to the truth. TVK also said that it does not need to bargain with anyone to form the government.
Meanwhile, events took a new turn when Dhinakaran along with MLA Kamaraj met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at Lok Bhawan. In this meeting, he supported AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami’s claim to form the government.
This development came to light on the same day when Dhinakaran had earlier said that his MLA was “missing” and there could be an attempt to influence him politically. Later, by presenting Kamaraj before the Governor, he tried to convey the message that AMMK’s support is with AIADMK only.
What did Dinakar allege?
After the meeting, Dhinakaran again accused TVK of using a “fake Xerox copy” in support of Vijay. Calling it a fraud, he said that a criminal complaint will be filed in this matter. He reiterated that AMMK’s official stand is in favor of AIADMK and the party stands with the NDA. He also said that Palaniswami is the chief ministerial candidate from the alliance.
Now this matter has gone beyond the issue of “missing MLA” and has turned into a big battle of political allegations and counter-allegations. Both the parties are accusing each other of manipulation and spreading wrong information, while claims of forming the government are being presented before the Governor.
Has the suspense of the majority been cleared?
The majority equation in the Assembly is still not clear. Earlier, Vijay had met the Governor and claimed the support of 116 MLAs, due to which TVK was said to be two seats behind the majority. Initially there was discussion that Vijay could take oath on Saturday, but the uncertainty regarding the support letters changed the situation.
The situation became more complicated when the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) distanced itself from the news of its support to TVK. Whereas the letter of support from Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) was delayed. According to sources, VCK was in talks for the post of Deputy Chief Minister, due to which the picture of the alliance became more complicated.
Now amid allegations of fake documents, conflict over supporting letters and changing political equations, all eyes are on Raj Bhavan, where Governor Arlekar, after assessing the claims of all parties, will decide who will be given the opportunity to form the next government in the state.
