Fire Erupts at Sigma Renew 360 Facility

A significant fire has broken out at the Sigma Renew 360 plastics recycling facility located in Henry, Tennessee, prompting a response from fire departments across the region. Two firefighters experienced heat exhaustion and were treated on-site but quickly returned to assist in combating the flames. Ron Watkins, the Director of the Henry County Emergency Management Agency, confirmed that the firefighters received care from county EMS and were soon back on the scene.

Prolonged Battle Ahead

Watkins indicated that extinguishing the fire will be a lengthy process, stating, "This is going to be an extended length of time event. It's going to take forever to burn this fire off."

The facility, situated at 170 Mark I Drive, was evacuated promptly after the fire ignited earlier in the day, with no reported injuries among the workers.

Advisory for Local Residents

Residents in the vicinity and to the north of the Sigma Renew 360 plant have been advised to shelter in place due to potential health risks from smoke and fumes, particularly for those with respiratory issues.

Water Supply Challenges

The extensive firefighting efforts are straining the local water supply. As multiple fire departments connect to hydrants, the water levels in Henry are diminishing. Watkins mentioned that additional tankers have been requested to ensure a steady water supply at the scene, with the Gibson County Fire Department already en route to assist.

Emergency Response Teams on Site

As of 3:35 p.m. local time, fire crews from Henry, Paris, Paris Landing, Ore Springs/Como, Carroll County, McKenzie, Huntingdon, and Mansfield are actively engaged in battling the blaze. The Tennessee Highway Patrol, Henry County Sheriff's Office, and BPU are also present to support the firefighting efforts.
