The toss plays a very important part in cricket, and particularly so in the Indian Premier League, where dew tends to come into play during evening matches. The captains keenly analyse the conditions before deciding to have their say on the toss, and while the fans take care of the outcome of the toss, very few are aware of the particular coin used during every IPL match.
The coin used for the toss is unique for every edition of the Indian Premier League and is not to be compared with those used in international cricket matches. These are prepared by the BCCI, keeping in mind the special requirements and also for the branding aspect of the league.
Also the coin has been a subject of debates and controversy several times in its history due to the high significance of winning the toss in T20 cricket matches.
Design and Look of the IPL Toss Coin
The coin used for the IPL toss is quite distinct from those seen in standard cricket toss matches. They have large indications of both Heads and Tails, and generally in quite a few editions 'H' and 'T' is written over a dark brown circle in the middle with a shiny metallic finish around it.
It sometimes has to be with the primary sponsor or broadcast partner of the particular edition, and in certain years the coin does carry the name or the logo of the sponsor. Bright appearance and custom design makes it stand out during the time of the toss, which is one of the most watched events prior to the start of any match.
