Hagari Bommanahalli: A total of 36 sheep, including 3 rams, were killed after being struck by lightning in Uppara Gatti village of the taluk around 6 PM on Friday, May 8.
The incident occurred when Suresh of Uppara Gatti was grazing 3 of his sheep and Kadlebajjappa Ajjappa was grazing 33 of his sheep on the outskirts of the village. Heavy lightning struck the area on Friday evening, instantly killing all 36 animals.
Tehsildar R. Kavitha, Assistant Director of the Animal Husbandry Department Dr. Soorappa, and VA Prabhakar visited the spot to conduct an inspection.
Responding to the incident, officials stated that since the sheep died due to a natural calamity, steps will be taken to ensure the victims receive government compensation as per the existing rules as soon as possible.
