Brits turn to Aperol Spritz as soon as the temperature gauge hits 16 degrees, according to new research. It doesn't take a heatwave to get Brits reaching for the ice bucket, with the official temperature Brits turn to Aperol to enjoy the sunshine is only 16°C degrees, Deliveroo data revealed.
The data, which reveals just how seriously Brits take their seasonal eating and drinking, shows orders of the popular summer drink spike nearly 400% on the on-demand delivery app when temperatures hit a modest 16°C.
Suzy McClintock, VP of Consumer and New Verticals at Deliveroo said: "We've found that Brits don't need a heatwave to catch those summer feelings; just a glimpse of sunshine is enough to send Aperol orders through the roof." And it turns out, London and Manchester are the nation's top Aperol loving cities, followed by Brighton, and towns Camberley and Crawley.
But it's not just the Italian apéritif Brits love to reach for when the weather gets hotter. It turns out, 'Picky Bits' also surged on Deliveroo in response to sunny weather.
Deliveroo saw orders of the picnic necessities rise nearly 40% as the weather began to get warmer. With 18°C the tipping point for orders of snackable items like dips, houmous, sausage rolls, olives and savoury pastries..
It discovered that the nation's summer isn't complete without dips, with the condiments being the most popular 'Picky Bits' category on Deliveroo.
Houmous has been revealed the clear winner as the UK's 'must have' dip, followed by cream cheese & chive, guacamole and tzatziki to complete the spread.
But a dip is nothing without its 'dippers' - the next most popular 'Picky Bits' items include sausage & savoury rolls, olives, savoury pastries, antipasti, breadsticks, and charcuterie with Brits opting for the fridge-to-table method the second the clouds clear.
Suzy added: "Whether it's a spontaneous park picnic or the first 'Picky Bits' dinner of the year in the garden, we're seeing a real shift in how people shop as soon as the winter chill lifts.
"We're ready to bring the summer essentials to doorsteps in as little as 20 minutes - because when the British sun actually decides to show up, you won't want to miss the moment!"
Brits can order both Aperol and Picky Bits on Deliveroo from supermarkets like Sainsbury's, Co-op, Waitrose and Morrisons.
