Mumbai: The release of Aakhri Sawal, starring Sanjay Dutt, has been delayed after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) reportedly asked the makers to make changes to certain scenes and dialogues. The film, which was scheduled to hit theatres on May 8, is now unlikely to meet its release date due to the ongoing certification process.

The development has put the film in a temporary limbo, with the makers awaiting clearance after implementing the suggested edits.

Censor board seeks changes before release

According to sources, the CBFC has requested modifications to specific portions of the film, prompting a delay in its theatrical release. The editing process is expected to take some time, making it difficult for the film to release as planned.

The film had earlier been eyeing a May 8 release, after an initial target of May 15. However, the latest developments suggest that audiences may have to wait a little longer before the film reaches cinemas.

Sources indicated that once the required edits are completed and approved, the film is likely to be released later this month.

Film explores RSS history

Aakhri Sawal is based on the 100-year journey of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which was founded in 1925 by Keshav Baliram Hedgewar.

The film aims to explore various aspects of the organisation’s history and philosophy, including perspectives that have not been widely presented to mainstream audiences. Given the subject matter, the film has attracted attention for its political and historical themes.

Cast and crew details

Directed by Abhijeet Mohan Warang, the film features an ensemble cast including Amit Sadh, Namashi Chakraborty, Sameera Reddy, Tridha Choudhury and Neetu Chandra.

The project is presented by Nikhil Nanda and Dhanraj Nathwani, and produced by Nikhil Nanda along with Sanjay Dutt under the banners of Nikhil Nanda Motion Pictures and Neem Tree Entertainment.

The story, screenplay and dialogues have been written by Utkarsh Naithani, with co-production support from Puneet Nanda, Dr Deepak Singh, Gaurav Dubey and Ujjwal Anand.

Sanjay Dutt’s recent projects

On the work front, Sanjay Dutt was last seen in Raja Shivaji, where he portrayed the role of Afzal Khan. Earlier this year, he also reprised his role as SP Chaudhry Aslam in Dhurandhar 2.

The delay in Aakhri Sawal adds to the list of films that have faced certification hurdles due to sensitive subject matter, particularly those dealing with political or historical narratives.

Conclusion

The postponement of Aakhri Sawal underscores the challenges filmmakers often encounter during the certification process, especially when dealing with subjects of historical and political significance. While the delay may affect immediate release plans, the makers appear optimistic about securing clearance soon.

With the required edits underway, the film is expected to find a new release date later this month, once it receives the green light from the censor board.
