The investigation into the tragic Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crash, which resulted in the loss of 260 lives last year, is nearing its conclusion. According to Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, the final report is anticipated to be released within the next month. He stated that based on the information received, the inquiry is in its last phase. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is conducting the investigation independently, and we have provided them with all necessary resources. Naidu made these remarks while speaking to reporters at the India Aircraft Leasing and Financing Summit 2.0 held in Gandhinagar's GIFT City on Friday. The Air India flight AI171, which was en route to London Gatwick, crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025, claiming the lives of 260 individuals, including 241 passengers.

Ongoing Investigation Efforts

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau is actively looking into the circumstances surrounding this incident. Earlier this year in February, the Civil Aviation Ministry indicated that all potential causes of the crash were under investigation, with efforts being made to complete the inquiry in a timely manner. Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murleedhar Mohol, also informed the Rajya Sabha that the AAIB's investigation is ongoing. The ministry confirmed that all possible factors related to the accident are being examined. In its preliminary report released on July 12 last year, the AAIB noted that fuel supply to both engines was cut off within seconds of takeoff, leading to chaos in the cockpit. The report revealed that cockpit voice recordings captured one pilot asking the other why the fuel supply was shut down, to which the second pilot responded that he had not done so.

Comprehensive Investigation Approach

The ministry also clarified that the preliminary report was based on available evidence at that time and did not include any interim safety recommendations. Investigators are currently assessing various components of the aircraft and evaluating technical, operational, organizational, and human factors related to the crash, emphasizing that no possibilities are being ruled out in the investigation.
