ipl 2026 Amidst this, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued very strict security instructions for all the franchises and players. The board has alerted players, support staff and team officials about possible honey traps and the danger of leaking sensitive information.

In these guidelines issued after the report of BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit, strict rules have been imposed on the personal activities of players, hotel movement, entry of guests and even the behavior of team owners. The board has clearly said that without prior permission no unknown person will be allowed entry into the team hotel or dressing room.

Why did BCCI’s concern increase?

According to media reports, during IPL 2026, matters to partners, relatives and friends of some players increased the concern of BCCI. During the investigation, it was feared that confidential information to the players or the team could reach out through contact with unknown people. After this, the board sent a detailed eight-page security document to all the 10 franchisees and asked them to strictly follow the instructions.

What is there in the BCCI order?

1. No person, regardless of identity, relationship to a team member or stated purpose, will be permitted to enter a player’s or support staff member’s hotel room without the prior notice and express written approval of the Team Manager.

2. No guest will be taken to private hotel rooms unless specifically permitted in writing by the Team Manager.”

What is the warning regarding honey trap?

The board warned the franchises and said that cases like sexual exploitation and honey traps targeting players and officials have been coming to light in major sports events. The guidelines state that “BCCI draws the attention of all franchises to the widespread risks of targeted sexual exploitation and honey-trapping prevalent at high-level sporting events.”

What is the new rule for players to leave the hotel?

1. Players and support staff must inform the Security Liaison Officer (SLO) or Team Integrity Officer (TIO) before leaving the hotel.

2. Information about any personal or recreational travel will have to be given to the team manager and security officers in advance.

3. Records of all activities of the team will be maintained.

What rules for team owners?

The board has implemented strict rules not only for the players but also for the franchise owners and their representatives. According to the instructions, “IPL franchise owners and their representatives are strictly prohibited from communicating with or physically approaching players or team officials in the dugout, dressing room or field of play during a match.”

Strict action against vaping and e-cigarettes

BCCI has also taken a tough stance on the use of vaping and e-cigarettes in dressing rooms and tournament venues. “Instances of vaping in dressing rooms and other restricted areas of tournament venues have been brought to the attention of the BCCI,” the document said. The board clarified that vapes and electronic cigarettes are banned in India and legal action can be taken against those who break the rules.

What action will be taken in case of violation?

BCCI has warned that it will check all IPL teams from time to time to assess their compliance with the new instructions. The board said, “Any violation of the above instructions must be reported to the IPL operations team or the concerned IPL venue team as soon as possible.” Also, a clear message has been given to the franchisees that any violation will be considered a serious disciplinary matter and action can be taken against the culprits ranging from financial fine to show cause notice.
