Stock Market: Sensex and Nifty drop in early trade

Mumbai: The BSE Sensex declined 405.95 points to 77,438.58 in early trade on Friday. The NSE Nifty dropped 136.15 points to 24,190.50.
The US dollar index traded above 98 on Friday as escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz supported safe-haven demand for the greenback.
Gold prices hovered near $4,700 per ounce on Friday as renewed tensions between the US and Iran revived geopolitical uncertainty and inflation concerns.
WTI crude futures moved closer to $96 per barrel on Friday as renewed tensions between the US and Iran increased concerns over energy supply disruptions.
