PM Modi and BCCI’s big gift to North-East, hi-tech cricket academy inaugurated, now talent will shine at home

PM Modi Inaugurates Indoor Cricket Academies In North East: Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated indoor cricket academies in Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh from Gangtok on Tuesday, April 28. This initiative is being considered as a big step towards strengthening the sports infrastructure in North-East India. BCCI also shared the video of this special occasion on its official social media platform, which clearly shows the importance of this project.

Academy equipped with modern facilities in Manipur

Manipur Cricket Association’s Indoor Cricket Academy was inaugurated at Luwangpokpa Cricket Stadium, Luwangsangbam, Imphal. The project has received funding from the BCCI and is part of a larger plan to develop indoor facilities in the north-eastern states. This academy has world class facilities like three indoor practice pitches, gym, administrative office and swimming pool, which will provide a better training environment to the players.

Situation will change with infrastructure

Manipur Cricket Association Secretary Larenjam Geetaranjan Singh described it as a historic moment in the cricket history of the state. He also thanked Jai Shah for supporting this project. He said that BCCI will bear the expenses of operation and maintenance of this academy for the next two years. The special thing is that due to the indoor facility, the training of the players will not be interrupted even during the rainy season and camps and coaching can continue throughout the year.

Local players will get big benefits

Referring to the recent achievements, Larenjam Singh said that Manipur made it to the finals of five BCCI domestic tournaments in the 2025 season and also won two Under-19 titles. He said that all the players representing the state are local, who have been groomed over years of hard work. With the arrival of the new academy, cricket in both boys and girls categories will get further strength and new talent will get an opportunity to emerge.

Arunachal Pradesh also got modern facilities

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also virtually inaugurated an indoor cricket academy at Doimukh, Arunachal Pradesh. This facility has been jointly developed by BCCI and Arunachal Cricket Association. Modern practice nets and fitness centers have been built here, due to which the training of the players will not be affected even in heavy rainy weather and practice can be continued throughout the year.

During this program, the Prime Minister said that such infrastructure will play an important role in enhancing local talent and providing better opportunities to the youth. He said that this will further strengthen the sports ecosystem of the North-Eastern region. During this time he was on an official visit to Gangtok, where he also launched several other development projects.

BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla He described this initiative as very important. He said that this project has brought new possibilities in an area where immense talent exists. Now that the high performance infrastructure is in place, the coming years will see continued growth. He stressed that now the focus will be on giving better competitive experience to the players and taking them to higher levels.
