The 50th match of IPL 2026 was very important for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). This match was played against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on 7 May at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. In this match, Lucknow performed brilliantly and defeated RCB by 9 runs. With this victory, the Lucknow team is still in the race for the playoffs, due to which its fans are very happy. LSG won the last match on 9 April.
However, rain disrupted the match several times. Due to rain, the game had to be stopped mid-way, due to which the match could not be played for 20 overs and was played in 19-19 overs. Despite rain and intermittent play, Lucknow maintained its focus and won the match.
LSG innings
After losing the toss, Lucknow was called to bat first and the team showed a strong game from the beginning. In the powerplay, LSG scored 68 runs without losing any wicket. The match was stopped several times due to rain in the middle but the aggressive style of the batsmen did not change. Between 7 and 15 overs, Lucknow added 87 runs by losing only 1 wicket. After this, the team scored runs quickly in the death overs and scored 54 runs after losing 2 wickets between 16 and 19 overs. On the basis of this brilliant batting, LSG made a big score of 209 runs at the loss of 3 wickets in 19 overs.
Mitchell Marsh played a brilliant inning of 111 runs for Lucknow. Apart from him, Nicholas Puran scored 38 runs and Rishabh Pant scored 32 not out. On the other hand, RCB bowlers could not make much impact in this match. For the team, Josh Hazlewood, Krunal Pandya and Rasikh Salam could get only 1 wicket each.
RCB innings
Bengaluru’s start to chase the target was nothing special. In the powerplay, the team lost 2 wickets and scored only 45 runs. After this, the team made a slight comeback in the middle overs and added 105 runs after losing 3 wickets between 7 and 15 overs. Then even in the death overs, the team lost only 1 wicket and added 53 runs. In this way, RCB could score only 203 runs for 6 wickets in 19 overs. Due to rain, the match was decided by DLS rule. LSG won the match by 9 runs.
RCB captain Rajat Patidar scored the highest score of 61 runs. Whereas Tim David played an inning of 40 runs. Apart from this, Devdutt Padikkal scored 34 runs, Krunal Pandya remained unbeaten after scoring 28 runs and Romario Shepherd also returned unbeaten after scoring 23 runs. On the other hand, in bowling for Lucknow, Prince Yadav took 3 wickets, Shahbaz Ahmed took 2 wickets and Mohammed Shami took 1 wicket.
LSG playoff qualification scenario
If Lucknow had lost this match, it would have almost been out of the playoff race but by defeating RCB, it has kept its hopes alive. LSG has played 10 matches so far, out of which they won 3 and lost 7. The team has a total of 6 points and the net run rate is -0.949. Lucknow is currently at number 10 in the points table.
Now the team has 4 matches left. To reach the playoffs, Lucknow will have to win all four of its matches. If this happens then the team will get 14 points. Along with this, Lucknow will also have to improve its net run rate. If all this is done correctly then the path to the playoffs can open for Lucknow Super Giants.
