Thalapathy Vijay’s entry into politics has turned into one of the biggest talking points in Tamil Nadu after his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), delivered a remarkable performance in the state assembly elections. The actor-turned-politician led his party to victory in 108 seats in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly, making TVK the single-largest party in the election.
Amid celebrations over Vijay’s huge political success, fresh reports have now sparked excitement among fans of actress Trisha Krishnan. According to reports, TVK leaders are interested in bringing Trisha into politics and want her to contest a possible by-election from the Tiruchirappalli East constituency.
Vijay himself won from two constituencies in the election – Perambur in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli East. However, election rules allow a candidate to keep only one seat. He must resign from one constituency within 14 days, after which a bypoll will be announced for the vacant seat.
Reports suggest Vijay is likely to retain the Perambur constituency because his victory margin there was much larger and the area is closer to the Tamil Nadu state secretariat. This means Tiruchirappalli East may soon require a by-election.
According to reports, Vijay and senior TVK members are trying to convince Trisha Krishnan to contest from that seat. However, the actress is reportedly hesitant about entering politics because she does not come from a political background.
Despite falling short of a clear majority, TVK’s debut performance has surprised many political observers. The majority mark in the assembly is 118 seats, meaning Vijay’s party is still 10 seats away from forming the government on its own.

Several reports claim TVK may now look for an alliance to form the government. Some political discussions have linked the party with the DMK, which secured 59 seats, while others believe an alliance with AIADMK, which won 47 seats, could also be possible.
Reports also suggest Vijay has written to Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar requesting an invitation to form the government. There are also claims that Vijay could take oath as Tamil Nadu’s next Chief Minister on May 7, although there has been no official confirmation yet.
