Lucknow: The biggest change that has been seen in the politics and governance system of Uttar Pradesh in the last few years is the process of recruitment in government jobs. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath once again made it clear on Thursday that now appointments in the state are not being made on the basis of money or influence, but only on the basis of merit. During a grand program organized at Lok Bhavan, CM Yogi handed over appointment letters to 481 candidates selected for the Department of AYUSH, Vocational Education and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister’s attitude was quite harsh on the old system. He bluntly said that now no youth in Uttar Pradesh needs to submit a recommendation for a job. In fact, the state government is considering it as a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Mission Employment”, under which till now more than 9 lakh youth have been given the opportunity of government service.

“Corruption hollows out the system like a mite.”

In his address, the Chief Minister, while targeting the previous governments, said that before 2017, appointments were made on the basis of caste, religion and region. He said, “If a briber had come into the system in place of a qualified candidate, he would have hollowed out the entire system like a mite for the next 30-35 years.” CM Yogi clarified that his government had resolved to eliminate ‘leakage’ and corruption from the recruitment process from the very first day.

The surprising thing is that within the last 15 days this is the fourth major appointment letter distribution program of the state government. Praising the transparency of Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) and Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC), the Chief Minister said that accountability and use of technology has made UP the highest employment generating state in the country.

Changing picture of UP: Journey from Bimaru to ‘growth engine’

There was a time when Uttar Pradesh was counted in the category of ‘sick’ states, but CM Yogi showed through statistics how the picture has changed. He said that before 2017, people used to look at the name of UP with suspicion, but today the state has become the growth engine of the country’s economy. According to the Chief Minister, the per capita income and annual budget of the state have increased three times.

Talking on the employment front, he said that the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector in UP is now at the forefront in the country. About 3 crore people are working in 96 lakh MSME units of the state. Not only this, the number of big industries has also increased from 14,000 to 32,000, which is a sign of industrial revolution in the state.

AYUSH and skill development will change the fate of youth

Making the newly appointed candidates aware of their responsibilities, the Chief Minister said that the AYUSH department has tremendous potential to promote ‘health tourism’. He stressed on making ‘Ayushman Arogya Mandir’ more effective in every village. Regarding the vocational education department, he said that 150 ITIs have been made hi-tech in collaboration with Tata Technologies. Now the youth of UP are taking training in modern fields like drone technology, artificial intelligence and robotics.

In the end, CM Yogi also became emotional while mentioning the empowerment of disabled people. He said that there is no lack of talent among the disabled, they just need the right platform. Along with increasing their pension, the government has also opened special universities and rehabilitation centres. At the conclusion of the program, he administered oath to all the newly appointed personnel to serve honestly, so that UP can be transformed from a good state to the best state.
