In a dramatic incident on Thursday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out raids at multiple locations across Mohali and Chandigarh, including the residence of an IT professional in Kharar.

During the operation at Western Towers Society, an unidentified individual reportedly attempted to evade scrutiny by tossing a bag stuffed with cash from a ninth-floor apartment. The bag hit the ground and burst open, scattering currency notes across the area. A driver waiting in a white car below tried to collect the cash and escape but was apprehended by ED officials on the spot. Preliminary reports suggest that around Rs 21 lakh in Rs 500 notes was recovered.

Sources identified the businessman as Nitin Kumar Gohil, an IT professional who moved into flat number 906 of the society four months ago. Residents mentioned that Gohil frequently received large courier shipments, often handled by his driver. It is suspected that Gohil may have had prior knowledge of the impending raid.

The commotion attracted a crowd, prompting local police intervention. On the directions of Kharar DSP Ishant Singla, a team led by SHO Amrinder Singh reached the scene to assist and start a formal investigation.

The raid is part of a larger ED crackdown across 12 locations in the Mohali-Chandigarh region. The investigation is linked to alleged financial irregularities and fraud concerning the Suntech City project. Companies including ABS Township, Altus Builders, and Dheer Constructions are under scrutiny for allegedly defrauding the public and misusing Change of Land Use (CLU) licenses issued by the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA).

While speculation persists about possible political connections of Gohil, authorities have not released an official statement. The probe is ongoing, with investigators continuing to examine a financial scam estimated to involve hundreds of crores of rupees.
