RCB vs LSG, IPL 2026: Bengaluru Aim to Bounce Back Against Out-of-Form Lucknow in Crucial IPL Clash

Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru will look to rediscover their momentum and strengthen their playoff push when they face struggling Lucknow Super Giants in the reverse fixture at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Thursday.

Currently placed second on the points table, RCB are tied on 12 points with four other teams, making every game crucial in the race for the playoffs. The Bengaluru side will be eager to recover quickly from their disappointing four-wicket defeat to Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.

That loss exposed a rare batting collapse from RCB, who slumped dramatically from 79/2 to 96/6 within three overs before being bowled out for 155. Despite the setback, RCB’s batting line-up has largely impressed this season with its aggressive brand of cricket.

Virat Kohli has once again been the standout performer, scoring 379 runs so far, while Devdutt Padikkal and captain Rajat Patidar have also played important roles in the middle order.

With Phil Salt unavailable due to a finger injury, young Jacob Bethell is expected to continue opening alongside Kohli. Bethell has shown flashes of brilliance and RCB will hope he can convert his starts into a major innings.

The week-long break before this fixture is likely to help RCB regroup and return with renewed energy.

Lucknow Super Giants, meanwhile, have endured a difficult campaign and currently sit at the bottom of the standings after losing five of their last six matches. Their only victory during that stretch came via a Super Over win against Kolkata Knight Riders, but they failed to build momentum and were comfortably beaten by Mumbai Indians in their previous game.

LSG’s struggles have stemmed from inconsistency in both batting and strategy. The team has frequently shuffled its batting order, but key players including Mitchell Marsh, Rishabh Pant, Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran have failed to produce consistent performances.

Pant, in particular, has faced scrutiny over his form in white-ball cricket.

RCB will take confidence from their strong bowling unit, which has been one of their biggest strengths this season. The experienced pace duo of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood have formed an effective partnership, notably helping bowl Delhi Capitals out for just 75 earlier in the tournament.

Bhuvneshwar has been especially dangerous with the new ball, while Hazlewood has delivered control and timely breakthroughs throughout the season.

All-rounder Krunal Pandya has also made valuable contributions with nine wickets, while Suyash Sharma and Romario Shepherd showed encouraging signs in the previous match despite the defeat.

For Lucknow, Prince Yadav and Mohsin Khan have been their most reliable bowlers, claiming 13 and 10 wickets respectively. Mohammed Shami started the season strongly but has struggled in recent matches, especially during the death overs.

LSG’s inability to control the flow of runs in the final overs remains a major concern and could prove costly against RCB’s explosive batting unit.

RCB had won the earlier meeting between the two teams by five wickets and will look to complete the double as they aim to tighten their grip on a playoff spot.
