Sunrisers Hyderabad rode on a commanding all-round batting performance led by Heinrich Klaasen to register a 33-run victory over Punjab Kings in their IPL 2026 clash at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

In a high-scoring encounter packed with power-hitting and momentum swings, Klaasen’s composed yet aggressive 69 off 43 deliveries proved to be the decisive knock as SRH posted a formidable 235/4 before restricting Punjab Kings to 202/7.

SRH got off to a flying start with Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head attacking from the outset during the powerplay. The aggressive opening stand laid the platform for another strong batting display, while Ishan Kishan continued the momentum with a fluent half-century.

However, it was Klaasen who anchored the innings at a crucial stage after Punjab Kings managed a few breakthroughs to slow SRH’s charge.

The South African batter blended calmness with calculated aggression, rotating strike effectively while punishing loose deliveries. Even as Punjab attempted to regain control in the middle overs, Klaasen ensured the scoring rate never dipped.

Punjab Kings’ sloppy fielding further hurt their chances, with multiple dropped catches allowing SRH batters to capitalise. Klaasen made full use of the reprieves and steadily guided the innings toward a massive total.

A late cameo from Nitish Kumar Reddy provided the finishing touch as SRH crossed the 230-run mark.

Chasing a daunting 236, Punjab Kings suffered early setbacks but found hope through Cooper Connolly, who produced a sensational unbeaten century.

Connolly smashed 107 off 59 balls and kept Punjab alive with fearless strokeplay, but lacked substantial support from the other end. While Marcus Stoinis and Suryansh Shedge chipped in with useful contributions, Punjab failed to build the partnerships required for a successful chase.

SRH’s bowlers delivered timely breakthroughs throughout the innings to maintain control despite Connolly’s resistance.

Pat Cummins led from the front with key wickets, while Nitish Kumar Reddy, Eshan Malinga, Shivang Kumar and Sakib Hussain provided effective support to prevent Punjab from mounting a serious comeback.

In the end, Connolly’s heroic knock was overshadowed by Klaasen’s match-defining innings as Sunrisers Hyderabad sealed an important 33-run win in IPL 2026.
