The Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Center reported on Wednesday that a continental high-pressure system is strengthening southward before it eventually stabilizes and weakens.

At higher altitudes, a subtropical high-pressure system remains stable, while upper-level easterly wind disturbances continue to impact the southern region.

Given these conditions, southern Vietnam will remain mostly cloudy with occasional sun through Sunday. While the daytime will stay hot, rain and thunderstorms are expected to become more widespread in the evening. Heavy downpours are likely in isolated areas during these peak periods.

Temperatures are forecast to fluctuate between 25-28 C at night, reaching highs of 31-34 C during the day, with some locations potentially exceeding 34 C.

Meteorologists expect the continental high-pressure system to weaken and move eastward shortly. This shift will create a low-pressure area stretching across the northern latitudes, which will merge with a western weather system before drifting south.

At the same time, the subtropical high-pressure system is expected to shift across central Vietnam. It will move north before eventually pulling back toward the east around Sunday.

U.S. weather forecast site AccuWeather also predicts “a few afternoon showers” for HCMC on Thursday, followed by evening thunderstorms from Friday through Sunday. The site estimates a temperature range between 28-36 C during these days.
