On Wednesday evening, parts of Mississippi were placed under a Tornado Emergency as a large and potentially lethal tornado swept through the area, leading to urgent alerts from the National Weather Service. The weather service offices in New Orleans and Jackson reported that a significant and extremely hazardous tornado was confirmed near Bude and Meadville around 7:10 p.m. CDT, moving eastward at nearly 50 mph.

The storm initially triggered a Particularly Dangerous Situation (PDS) tornado warning for north central Amite County at 7:19 p.m. CDT. Residents in Bude and Meadville were warned of a 'life-threatening situation,' with the tornado capable of completely destroying homes, businesses, vehicles, and mobile homes.

Shortly after, the National Weather Service in Jackson upgraded the alert to a Tornado Emergency for Bude, Meadville, McCall Creek, Brookhaven, and Bogue Chitto. The warning emphasized, 'This is a PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. TAKE COVER NOW!'

Forecasters indicated that the confirmed tornado was likely to cause catastrophic damage as it moved east through Franklin and Lincoln counties. Areas anticipated to be affected included Meadville, Bude, Little Springs, McCall Creek, Center Point, West Lincoln, Bogue Chitto, Brookhaven, Enterprise, East Lincoln, and Ruth.

Officials cautioned that flying debris could pose a deadly risk to anyone without adequate shelter. Residents were advised to immediately move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and avoid windows. Those in mobile homes, vehicles, or outdoors were urged to find substantial shelter without delay.

Additionally, the storm had the potential to produce hail measuring up to 1.25 inches in diameter. Authorities stressed that this was not a standard tornado warning, but a tornado emergency designated for the most perilous tornado scenarios that pose severe threats to life and cause catastrophic damage.
