
Kolkata, 6 May. After the results of West Bengal Assembly elections, violence continues in different areas of the state. In this series, Chandranath Rath, personal assistant (PA) of BJP leader and strongest contender for the post of Chief Minister, Subhendu Adhikari, was shot dead on Wednesday night.
During this firing in Madhyamgram, Chandranath’s driver was injured, who is being treated at Vibacity Nursing Home located at Madhyamgram crossing. On the other hand, the police has started searching for the killers while there is huge tension in the entire area after the incident.
Bullets were fired surrounding Chandranath’s car.
It is being told that Chandranath, who had been working as PA of Shubhendu Adhikari for a long time, was returning from Kolkata to his home in Madhyamgram, when the car was surrounded and four rounds were fired targeting Chandranath. In this firing, Chandranath and his driver sitting in the front seat were seriously injured. He was taken to the nearest hospital in a seriously injured condition, where Chandranath died during treatment. BJP claims that Chandranath was hit by three bullets in the chest. He died due to excessive bleeding.
Heavy tension in Madhyamgram area due to incident
As soon as information about the incident was received, police and central force teams reached the spot and started investigation. All the winning candidates of BJP reached the spot. This attack on the Scorpio vehicle took place right on the side of the national highway. At that time many BJP MLAs were present on the spot. These include Kaustav Bagchi, Piyush Kanadia, Shankar Ghosh and Shankar Chatterjee. There is an atmosphere of immense tension in the entire area. A large contingent of police, RAF and central forces have surrounded the area.
Meanwhile, police and central forces have blocked the area and the search for the attackers is going on. Police are scanning the surrounding CCTV footage so that the accused can be traced. On receiving the information, Shubhendu Adhikari himself reached the hospital and took information about the incident.
Regarding post-election violence 200 FIR registered433 arrests
On the other hand, State Director General of Police (DGP) Siddhanath Gupta said on Wednesday that till now a total of 200 FIRs have been registered in connection with the incidents of post-poll violence in the state and 433 people have been arrested. The DGP said that apart from 433 arrests made for their direct involvement in the post-poll violence cases, 1,100 people have been kept in preventive custody so far.
The DGP’s statement comes a day after the Election Commission of India (ECI) directed the West Bengal Chief Secretary, Director General of Police and CAPFs deployed in the state to ensure a ‘zero tolerance’ policy towards post-poll violence.
