5 things you need to know about Princess Kate's upcoming Italy visit

- Catherine, Princess of Wales will be heading to Italy next week on her first official overseas solo trip in nearly three and a half years. This marks the royal's first official overseas trip since her cancer treatment.
- Her solo trip to Reggio Emilia in northern Italy on May 13 and 14 with The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood. The visit will focus on early childhood development and is part of a "fact-finding mission" to study the internationally recognised "Reggio Emilia Approach," an educational philosophy that emphasises child-led learning, community, and the importance of environment and relationships in a child's development.
- During the two-day trip, Catherine will be meeting with educators, parents, children, local representatives and business leaders.
- A Kensington Palace spokesperson said the princess was "very much looking forward" to the visit. They added that the Princess of Wales will see "first-hand how the Reggio Emilia approach creates environments where nature and loving human relationships come together to support children's development.
- The princess last went on an official overseas trip in December 2022, when she travelled to Boston alongside the Prince William for the Earthshot Prize Awards. In March 2024, the princess publicly revealed that she had been diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer. After going through chemotherapy, she announced in January 2025 that she was in remission.
