Sadiq Khan has been blasted by Reform for overseeing rampant crime, rising house prices and "a city that puts foreign nationals ahead of Londoners." It followed a piece written by the Mayor of London, who attempted to encourage people to vote Labour in tomorrow's city-wide local council elections. In the piece, written for a national newspaper, the three-term Mayor blamed failing local councils on previous governments, and blasted Nigel Farage's Reform UK.
But Reform hit back, telling the Daily Express that "the last thing Londoners need is more Labour in London." A party spokesman said: "[Labour's] record is one of rampant crime, extortionate house prices, and a city that puts foreign nationals ahead of Londoners.
"In councils across the country, we have proven that Reform councils keep taxes low whilst delivering efficient and top-notch local services."
The spokesman added: "[Reform Councils] will fight tooth and nail to protect our Green Belt, help young Londoners get on the housing ladder, crack down on crime, and finally put Londoners first."
The furious fallout came after Sir Sadiq Khan wrote in the Daily Mirror, urging people to back his party in the elections tomorrow.
The Mayor of London said he had worked with Labour councils in the city to make the capital "a fairer, greener, safer, and more prosperous place for everyone."
Sir Sadiq, who is now in his third term as Mayor, said he had reduced crime and that London now had the lowest homicide rate in recorded history.
He pointed to his policies of bringing taxpayer-funded school meals into primary schools and said that they were not just "good policies - they're Labour policies".
"They would never have been possible without the partnership of Labour councils who share Londoners' belief in a better future for the city they love," the Mayor wrote.
But he claimed that Reform was the "only person" who would benefit from a bad election night for Labour, saying that Mr Farage did not offer solutions, but "fear and hatred".
Elections will take place across the capital tomorrow, May 7, with polls open from 0700 through to 2200.
You will need an ID to vote.
