Kapoor's Aarti
Camphor in Puja: In Sanatan Dharma, every tradition of worship has its own special meaning and purpose. Aarti is the most important among these because without it any puja is considered incomplete. Aarti is performed at all stages of puja like after offering incense, lamp and prasad. The lighting of the Aarti is not just a visual beauty but a symbol of the divine presence of God for the devotees.
According to spiritual beliefs, the light of Aarti removes the darkness of human ignorance and awakens the light of knowledge. Also, it is helpful in reducing negative thoughts in the mind and developing a positive attitude. In such a situation, sometimes the camphor burnt while performing Aarti gets extinguished, so is it considered a bad omen?
Use of camphor in Aarti
According to beliefs, camphor has special importance in Aarti. Camphor melts completely when burnt and does not leave ash. It symbolizes the destruction of man's ego and worldly desires. That is, the principle behind it is that man should give up his ego and merge with God. Scientifically, the aroma of camphor is helpful in destroying the insects present in the environment and purifying the environment.

method of lighting aarti
The method of lighting Aarti also has its own special scripture. Usually, camphor is burnt in a clean vessel and the idol is taken near the feet, navel and mouth and the entire idol is filled with light. There is a tradition of keeping extra camphor ready so that the flame does not go out in case of need. At the end of the puja, this divine flame is applied to the eyes to seek the blessings of the Lord. In traditions, there are two types of Aarti called Eka Aarti and Panch Aarti, with Panch Aarti symbolizing the five elements.
Is it inauspicious to extinguish camphor during Aarti?
Many devotees are worried that if camphor gets extinguished or falls from the plate during Aarti, it is inauspicious. However, in reality this is a phenomenon caused by wind speed, quality of camphor or technical reasons and not divine anger. In such cases, instead of panicking, one should complete the Aarti by re-lighting the camphor with devotion. Remember that God wants the devotion of the devotee and not such sudden incidents.
