Explosions in Punjab Raise Security Concerns
Gyanhigyan english | May 6, 2026 5:40 PM CST

In Punjab, a series of suspicious explosions near key security installations has sparked widespread fear and concern across the state. The first incident occurred around 8:15 PM outside the BSF Punjab Frontier Headquarters in Jalandhar, where an explosion took place in an Activa scooter. Just over two hours later, at approximately 10:30 PM, another loud blast was reported near an army camp in the Khalsa area of Amritsar. These two events, occurring within a short span of three hours, have raised serious questions about the security measures in this border state.

Details of the Jalandhar Blast

CCTV footage of the explosion outside the BSF headquarters in Jalandhar has gone viral on social media. The video clearly shows a sudden burst of flames and a loud explosion from the scooter. The intensity of the blast was so severe that it caused a commotion in the surrounding area. Police and BSF teams quickly arrived at the scene to secure the area. Initial investigations suggest that this was a suspicious explosion, but there have been no confirmed reports of casualties. The Jalandhar police are currently investigating the incident, with forensic teams collecting evidence.

Amritsar Blast Investigation

While the investigation into the Jalandhar explosion was ongoing, a second blast occurred near the outer wall of the army camp in Amritsar's Khalsa area. Local residents reported hearing a loud noise around 10:30 PM, which sent the community into panic as people rushed out of their homes. According to the Amritsar rural police, it appears that an individual threw something towards the wall, resulting in a low-intensity explosion that damaged a tin shed on the camp's outer wall. SP Aditya Warrior of Amritsar rural confirmed that their team responded promptly, and forensic experts, bomb disposal squads, and dog units are currently investigating the situation. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries, and the full details will emerge after the investigation.

Political Reactions and Security Concerns

A team from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) is also present at the scene. Senior leader Vikram Singh Majithia from the Shiromani Akali Dal has sharply criticized the Bhagwant Mann government, stating that this incident is not isolated but part of a broader decline in law and order. He accused the Chief Minister of being oblivious to the state's issues, citing previous incidents such as the RPG attack on the Mohali intelligence headquarters, grenade attacks on police stations, and the murder of Sidhu Moosewala as evidence of a climate of fear in Punjab. Majithia has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Home Minister to strengthen security in Punjab and seek central intervention.

Ongoing Security Challenges

Punjab has always been a sensitive border state, and there was a recent explosion on the Shambhu railway track as well. Security agencies are investigating potential links between the two incidents. So far, no organization has claimed responsibility for either explosion, but experts view these events as a serious challenge to national security. Senior officials from the Punjab police are continuously monitoring the situation. While it is reassuring that there have been no casualties, concerns about security lapses are being raised. The state government has yet to issue a detailed statement regarding these incidents.
