Since the pandemic, Akshay Kumar’s career has been at rock bottom with only two clean box office hits out of 19 releases out which 16 released in theatres.

Now, Bhooth Bangla has become his third box office hit and first in almost three years since OMG 2 in 2023. The other Akshay Kumar hit post pandemic is Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi.

Bhooth Bangla Hits Rs 200 Crore Box Ofice In 19 Days

The horror comedy marked Akshay Kumar’s reunion with Priyadarshan after 16 years and while their last two movies failed at the box office, Bhooth Bangla has not only turned out to be a box office hit, it is also the duo’s top grosser beating Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007).

In 19 days, Bhooth Bangla has hit Rs 132.50 crore (Rs 161 crore gross) in India and Rs 46 crore ($4.9 million) overseas for a worldwide total of Rs 207 crore, as per Box Office India.

Bhooth Bangla is expected to end its overseas run hitting Rs 50 crore but in India, the movie is still running successfully despite the release of Raja Shivaji.

The horror comedy is expected to end its run in India with Rs 150 crore plus biz. At the worldwide box office, Bhooth Bangla may end up earning Rs 220-240 crore.

This makes Bhooth Bangla the first and so far, only non-franchise hit of 2026 in Hindi.

The previous three box office hits of the year are all sequels. These include Border 2, Mardaani 3 and Dhurandhar: The Revenge.

According to Pinkvilla, Bhooth Bangla has had a total revenue of Rs 210 crore (Theatrical: India (Share) - Rs 75 crore, Overseas (Share) - Rs 22 crore. Non Theatrical: Digital - Rs. 80 crore, Music - Rs 15 crore, Satellite - Rs 18 crore).

And the movie’s total expenses are Rs 138 crore (Cost of Production - Rs 110 crore, P&A, Interest and Overheads - Rs 20 crore, Distribution Fee - Rs 8 crore).

This takes the movie’s total profit to Rs 72 crore (Total Revenue minus Total Expenses).

Bhooth Bangla is now the second most profitable movie of 2026 behind Dhurandhar: The Revenge and ahead of Border 2.

After Bhooth Bangla, Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan’s next release is thriller Haiwaan starring Saif Ali Khan in the lead role. The movie features Akshay Kumar as the antagonist and is slated to release in theatres by September or October 2026.
