New Delhi: Indian-origin entrepreneur and staunch ally of US President Donald Trump, Vivek Ramaswamy, has won the Republican primary for governor in Ohio, CNN projected on Wednesday.
Ramaswamy, a health-technology entrepreneur and biotech founder who ran for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, will face Democratic candidate Amy Acton in the November general election. Acton, the former director of the Ohio Department of Health, ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.
Ramaswamy is an American entrepreneur and politician of Indian descent. He was born in Ohio to Tamil Hindu immigrant parents from Kerala.
The victory positions the Ohio-born leader as the GOP nominee in the key Midwest state race. Ramaswamy has been a prominent anti-woke advocate and Trump supporter.
Top political observers in India have noted the development, highlighting the increasing participation of Indian-Americans in high-level US politics.
Ramaswamy’s campaign focused on making Ohio greater, building on his entrepreneurial background and alignment with national Republican priorities.
