On fashion’s biggest night, the Met Gala, celebrities usually compete with their couture. But Hyderabad-based entrepreneur Sudha Reddy stole the spotlight with a jaw-dropping jewellery piece that became the talk of the event. Dressed in a custom outfit by Manish Malhotra, Sudha elevated her look with a stunning necklace from her private collection, reportedly valued at USD 15 million (around ₹142 crore). The dazzling piece grabbed more attention than anything else on the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
According to reports, the necklace features a Victorian-style chain adorned with large rose-cut diamonds in pear and triangular shapes, arranged in floral patterns. At its centre sits a massive 550-carat violet-blue tanzanite pendant sourced from Tanzania’s Merelani Hills — popularly known as the “Queen of Merelani.” She completed her look with a 30-carat polki diamond ring and a striking 40-carat Colombian emerald ring set in gold, adding to the overall grandeur. Sharing her thoughts on Instagram, Sudha said her look was inspired by Hyderabad’s cultural roots and South Indian traditions. She described the outfit as a blend of heritage and modern expression, with design elements inspired by Kalamkari art and the concept of the “Tree of Life.” The ensemble featured rich textures like sculpted velvet, antique gold zari, and intricate zardozi work, reflecting a deep connection to Indian craftsmanship. Traditional motifs such as Palapitta, Jammi Chettu, Kalpavriksha, Surya, and Chandra were also incorporated into the design. “This is not just fashion, it is heritage brought to life,” she said, adding that the look represents evolution rather than nostalgia. Sudha Reddy, who made her Met Gala debut in 2021, has once again turned heads — this time with a statement that blends luxury, culture, and legacy in one unforgettable appearance.
