IPL Point Table 2026: Delhi Capitals suffered a major setback in their push for the playoffs after an eight-wicket defeat to Chennai Super Kings in Match 48 of the Indian Premier League 2026 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. The loss was DC's sixth in 10 matches this season, leaving them on eight points with no room for error in the race for a top-four finish.
Having started the match level on points with Chennai, Axar Patel's side slipped to seventh place in the standings, while the five-time champions moved ahead with 10 points.
Playoff scenario
With four league matches remaining, Delhi can reach a maximum of 16 points. To stay in contention, they must win all their remaining fixtures. Another defeat would leave their qualification hopes dependent on other results.
Historically, 16 points have been enough to secure a playoff berth in the IPL, while 14 points have rarely sufficed. The only exception came in 2024, when Royal Challengers Bengaluru advanced with 14 points in a tightly packed table.
However, with multiple teams already at or above the 12-point mark this season, a similar scenario appears unlikely, increasing the pressure on Delhi to deliver a perfect finish.
Remaining fixtures
Delhi Capitals' path to the playoffs includes four crucial matches:
- vs Kolkata Knight Riders - May 8, Delhi
- vs Punjab Kings - May 11, Dharamshala
- vs Rajasthan Royals - May 17, Jaipur
- vs Kolkata Knight Riders - May 24, Kolkata
