New Delhi. The Government of India has declared a large part of the Bay of Bengal as ‘Danger Zone’ and has also issued NOTAM (Notice to Airmen), which will remain effective till 6 May 2026. According to sources, this preparation has been made for the possible testing of Agni-4 (Agni-IV) intermediate-range ballistic missile. The no-fly zone has been expanded for this test and an alert has been issued under NOTAM to protect the approximately 3,550 km long corridor in the Bay of Bengal.

The length of Agni-4 is about 20 meters and weight is about 17 tonnes. Solid fuel will have to be used to run this missile. The missile is also capable of striking at a range of 3,500 to 4,000 kilometers and carrying a nuclear or conventional payload of up to 1,000 kg. Apart from this, it has a very accurate aiming capability and is a missile running on a mobile launcher. Agni-4 is one of the important missiles of India which is an Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM).
There is also strategic importance behind this test. It is being considered significant as it coincides with the first anniversary of ‘Operation Sindoor’ which took place in May 2025 and the anniversary of the Pahalgam attack. Following the security protocol, there will be a temporary ban on movement of civil aircraft and sea vessels in the concerned area during the notification period to ensure safety during the missile test. This is a huge step which will strengthen India’s nuclear deterrence and will also test military preparedness.
