Guwahati, May 5: Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve has achieved a remarkable milestone by welcoming its highest number of foreign tourists during the 2025–26 season, marking a significant achievement in wildlife tourism.

Up to March 31, 2026, the park attracted 30,474 international visitors, a substantial increase from the 17,693 foreign tourists recorded in the previous season.

In total, the park saw 4,68,147 visitors during the 2025–26 season, compared to 4,06,564 in the prior year.

Among these, 4,37,673 were domestic tourists, showcasing a robust interest from local visitors alongside the international influx.

Officials noted that this surge was particularly noticeable in the early part of the season.

“In the initial three months, up to December 27, the park recorded over 1,46,000 visitors, including approximately 6,700 foreign tourists,” an anonymous official stated.

This figure represents the highest international visitor count Kaziranga has experienced in such a brief period. “This is more than three times the number recorded two years ago,” the official added.

The upward trend has persisted beyond the official season, with April 2026 alone seeing 49,322 visitors, including 2,116 foreign tourists. Authorities believe this ongoing influx highlights Kaziranga’s growing appeal throughout the year.

Officials credited the increase in foreign visitors to enhanced conservation efforts, improved visitor experiences, and strategic initiatives aimed at establishing Kaziranga as a leading global wildlife destination.

New offerings such as birdwatching safaris in the Panbari Reserve Forest and boat safaris in the Biswanath Wildlife Division have broadened the experiences available to visitors.

Additionally, eco-shops operated by the Kaziranga Staff Welfare Society have enhanced the park’s attractiveness by providing curated souvenirs and locally crafted products, while also supporting local livelihoods.

Situated within the Eastern Himalayan biodiversity hotspot and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kaziranga continues to draw wildlife enthusiasts, photographers, and researchers from around the world.
