Isha Ambani Presented Indian fashion and art globally in a special way through its presence at Met Gala 2026. At this prestigious event in the fashion world, she wore a custom-made sari by designer Gaurav Gupta, which included hand-made motifs inspired by the Pichwai style and a sculptural cape, which is the designer’s signature.
This saree was woven with pure gold threads by the artisans of Swadesh. Her blouse was studded with real diamonds and what made its back design even more special was a historical headscarf taken from the Nizam’s jewelery collection. Speaking to Vogue on the red carpet, Isha Ambani said, “This blouse includes many pieces of my mother’s jewellery.”
What did designer Gaurav Gupta say?
Designer Gaurav Gupta informed in his social media post that this blouse is studded with more than 1800 carats of diamonds, as well as emeralds, polkis and kundans, making it a unique blend of clothing heritage and art.
Art also had a special place in this look of Isha Ambani. She carried with her a mango sculpture made by Subodh Gupta in a crochet bag. It was not only a symbol of India’s cultural heritage, but also perfectly reflected the theme of ‘Fashion is Art’. Subodh Gupta is known for transforming everyday things into great works of art.
To make her look more special, Isha Ambani adopted an artistic design inspired by Gajra in her hair. Made from paper, copper and brass by Brooklyn artist Sourabh Gupta, it was a modern rendition of the traditional Mogra gajra.
Isha Ambani was seen in New York before Met Gala
Before the Met Gala, Isha Ambani also showed a glimpse of Indianness in the pre-event held in New York on May 1. She wore a special dress, which was made with 26 different borders, each border representing a different region and craft of India.
What has Isha Ambani worn in the first Met Gala?
For the last three years, Isha Ambani has been continuously wearing clothes of Indian designers at the Met Gala. In 2024, she chose Rahul Mishra’s floral gown, while in 2023, she was seen in an outfit designed by Anamika Khanna. This time she continued this trend by wearing a saree from Gaurav Gupta and Swadesh and once again presented Indian craft and art prominently on the international stage.
