An IndiGo flight operating as 6E108 from Hyderabad to Chandigarh witnessed a safety incident on Tuesday, May 5 (IST), after landing, when a passenger’s personal electronic device—reportedly a power bank—caught fire while the aircraft was stationary.
According to the airline, the cabin crew acted swiftly and followed standard safety protocols to contain the situation. As a precautionary measure, an immediate evacuation of passengers was carried out. All individuals on board were safely escorted to the terminal without any reported injuries.
IndiGo confirmed that its ground teams and relevant aviation authorities were informed promptly. The airline also stated that the aircraft will undergo comprehensive safety inspections before being cleared for further operations.
In an official statement, an IndiGo spokesperson reiterated that passenger and crew safety remains the airline’s highest priority. “The aircraft will undergo necessary checks before resuming operations. At IndiGo, the safety of our customers and crew remains our top priority,” the spokesperson said.
Incidents involving power banks and lithium-ion batteries have been a growing concern in aviation due to their potential fire risk. Airlines globally, including IndiGo, have strict guidelines regarding the use and storage of such devices during flights.
