SAN ANTONIO (AP) - The Minnesota Timberwolves secured a narrow victory against the San Antonio Spurs, winning 104-102 in the first game of the Western Conference semifinals on Monday night.
Anthony Edwards made an unexpected return from injury, contributing 18 points to the team's success.
Victor Wembanyama delivered an impressive performance for the Spurs, recording 11 points, 15 rebounds, and setting an NBA postseason record with 12 blocks. His efforts were not enough to secure a win as the Timberwolves held on to their lead in a tightly contested match.
Close Finish
In a thrilling conclusion, the Spurs managed to cut the Timberwolves' lead to 104-102 after a steal by Devin Vassell led to a layup by Dylan Harper with 31 seconds left on the clock. However, a missed shot by Minnesota's Julius Randle allowed Julian Champagnie the chance to tie the game with a 3-pointer, but he could not convert as time expired.
Player Highlights
Julius Randle was a standout player for Minnesota, finishing the game with 21 points and 10 rebounds. For the Spurs, Dylan Harper also had a notable performance, scoring 18 points, while both Julian Champagnie and Stephon Castle added 17 points each to the team's efforts.
Edwards' Remarkable Comeback
Initially expected to miss at least the first two games of the series due to a bone bruise and hyperextension of his left knee, Anthony Edwards worked diligently to return to the lineup. His return was crucial for the Timberwolves, especially with guards Donte DiVincenzo and Ayo Dosunmu sidelined due to injuries.
