Only two days have passed since the Boston Celtics were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs after blowing a 3-1 lead, and Jaylen Brown is already at the center of a media storm.
What has people talking are his post-season comments, in which the former Finals MVP described the year that just ended as his favorite season of his entire career despite the disappointing finish.
Brown surprised many fans by crediting much of his mental peace to his direct relationship with fans through streaming, calling it “a kind of therapy” that allowed him to push back against media narratives.
However, it was during those same livestreams that some of his tactical reflections raised eyebrows.
That comment about rotations was seen by many as an indirect shot at the return of Jayson Tatum (Brown was also sharp in his remarks about Embiid’s flopping), the only real structural change late in the season.
Even during the regular season, some of Brown’s social media posts had fueled speculation that he felt more comfortable as the clear No. 1 option when Tatum was unavailable.
MVP Numbers and Fan Frustration
Individually, Brown still had an outstanding season: 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game paint the picture of a player who did nearly everything on the floor. True star-level production – but it was not enough to satisfy everyone, especially after the early playoff exit.
On social media, the reaction from Celtics fans was anything but gentle. Many interpreted his words as too self-focused, accusing him of caring more about individual production than team success.
The constant comparisons with Tatum amplified by the media, and Brown’s inability to carry the team in Game 7 without his co-star only added fuel to the fire. Within hours, those comments felt badly timed for a fan base that wants only one thing: to win.
