Agra Police Intervenes to Prevent Child Marriage After Teen Calls for Help

In Agra, a 16-year-old girl alerted authorities by calling 1098 to report her forced marriage, prompting a swift response from the police and child helpline. They arrived at the scene to halt the wedding and initiated protective measures for the girl.



The incident occurred in the Bundukatra area of the Sadar police station, where family members attempted to arrange a child marriage for the girl. She bravely reached out for help by calling the emergency number.


Brijesh Kumar Gautam, the district coordinator for the child helpline, stated that they received information indicating that the girl's uncle was taking her to finalize the marriage. Acting under the guidance of the district probation officer, the child helpline team and local police promptly responded.


The team provided assistance to the girl and counseled her family. The Sadar police were also present during this intervention. The department is now focusing on ensuring the girl's safety and providing her with ongoing counseling.
