The stars of South’s film industry are famous not only in the entire country but all over the world. Looking at his films, style, acting and fan following, it seems that his magic never ends. 1. M.G. Ramachandran (MGR)
Veteran superstar of Tamil film industry M.G. People fondly call Ramachandran as MGR. He was the first film actor of Tamil Nadu to achieve the post of Chief Minister. He became Chief Minister thrice and remained in this post for a total of about 10 years. He did brilliant work in films, for which he received National Film Award, Filmfare South Awards. Apart from this, the Government of India awarded him the country’s highest honor Bharat Ratna. MGR is still remembered in Tamil Nadu politics and film industry.
2. M. Karunanidhi
Karunanidhi is considered a very big politician of South. Initially he used to work in writing scripts in films. Later he entered politics and changed the entire history of Tamil Nadu politics. He remained the Chief Minister for almost 20 years from 1969 to 2011. The public expressed confidence in him 5 times. Even today people appreciate his political understanding, leadership ability and public service.
3. N.T. Rama Rao (NT Rama Rao)
NTR is one of the most popular and great actors of Indian cinema. He worked mainly in Telugu films. After acting in about 300 films, he entered politics. He became the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh three times in 1983–84, 1984–89 and 1994–95. He received three National Film Awards and was also awarded the Padma Shri Award. NTR still gets a lot of respect from the Telugu people.
4. J. Jayalalitha (J. Jayalalithaa)
Jayalalitha was a powerful actress of South Industry. He did many superhit roles in films. Later she came into politics and won a lot of love and trust of the people. She remained Chief Minister for a total of 14 years and reached this post 6 different times. She was known for her leadership style and strong decisions. He also received Filmfare Awards for acting.
5. Janaki Ramachandran
Janaki Ramachandran M.G. She was Ramachandran’s third wife. She herself was an actress in South films. He worked in about 25 films. She also became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for a few weeks in 1988. Although her tenure was very short, she is one of the very few women who held this high post.
Other prominent names
Chiranjeevi: Megastar of Telugu cinema. He also played an active role in politics and served as a Union Minister in the Central Government. The second name is Pawan Kalyan who is Chiranjeevi’s younger brother. He is still active in films and is currently working as the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
