Counting of votes is going on in 140 assembly seats of Kerala. Initial trends show a tight contest between LDF and UDF, with LDF getting a slight lead. The final results are expected to be declared by evening.

Thiruvananthapuram: Today is the biggest day of Kerala politics. Counting of votes is going on for 140 assembly seats of the state and everyone's heartbeat is increasing. Counting is being done at 140 centers located at 43 places.

In the initial trends, the contest between the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF) remains very close. Both the alliances remained tied in the counting of postal ballots. However, in terms of initial lead, LDF is ahead on four seats. Now the counting of votes locked in EVM machines has started. Clear trends will start emerging by 9 am and the entire picture will become clear by afternoon. Large LED screens have been installed in the offices of the parties to watch the results live. The Chief Electoral Officer has said that the final results will be declared before 5 pm.

Talking about the trends, opposition leader V D Satheesan is leading from the beginning in Paravur seat. At the same time, Shobha Surendran has got an early lead in Palakkad. NDA candidate is also ahead in Manjeshwaram. V. Shivankutty is leading from Nemam seat. UDF candidate Rajan Pallan is leading in Thrissur. CP John is leading in Thiruvananthapuram seat. Rosie M John is leading in Angamaly and VT Balram is leading in Tritala. UDF candidate Uma Thomas is leading in Thrikkakara seat. Meanwhile, the lock of a strong room (room number three) in Kalamassery is reported not to open, which may possibly be broken into.

UDF has full hope that after 10 years it will return to power with a landslide majority. At the same time, LDF is not giving much importance to the exit poll results and is confident that Pinarayi Vijayan's government will be formed for the third time, even if with a slight majority. BJP also hopes that this time it will emerge as a decisive force in Kerala.

On the day of results, big leaders are present at different places. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is monitoring the results from his home in Kannur, while V D Satheesan is at the Cantonment House. KPCC President will reach the party headquarters in the morning. State Secretary MV Govindan is following the results at AKG Center and BJP leaders including Rajeev Chandrashekhar are following the results at Mararji Bhawan.
