‘Raja Shivaji’ crosses ₹10 crore on Day 1 at the box office

The historical drama Raja Shivaji, starring Riteish Deshmukh, opened in cinemas on Maharashtra Day and recorded a strong start at the box office.

According to trade reports, the film collected ₹11.35 crore across India on its first day. The Marathi version led the numbers with ₹ 8 crore, while the Hindi performance contributed ₹ 3.35 crore.

The film was released on a large scale with around 6,000 shows. Reports stated that nearly 1,900 Marathi shows saw an occupancy of around 68 per cent. Meanwhile, around 4,200 Hindi shows recorded an occupancy close to 16 per cent.

In Mumbai, which had the highest number of Marathi screenings, occupancy reached nearly 73 per cent across approximately 600 shows. In comparison, the Hindi version in Delhi NCR had around 400 shows with an occupancy of around 13 per cent.

Jio Studios presents Raja Shivaji which the Mumbai Film Company produces through Jyoti Deshpande and Genelia Deshmukh as its producers. The film performed better than another release Ek Din, which collected around ₹1 crore on the same day.

The opening figures also moved past the Day 1 collection of Stars on the groundwhich had earned ₹10.7 crore earlier. However, the film’s opening remained lower than छावa, which had recorded ₹33 crore on its first day with a wider release.

Reports noted that Raja Shivaji had a smaller release compared to Chhaava, which had around 16,000 shows across locations.

The film’s performance continued to be tracked as it entered an opening weekend.

The film Raja Shivaji is based on the literal figure Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj who’s recognized as one of India’s great warrior kings. It releases on May 1 in Hindi, Marathi and Telugu.
