On Wednesday evening, Bengaluru experienced a catastrophic rainstorm that resulted in the deaths of 10 individuals, according to local authorities.

The combination of heavy rainfall, hail, and strong winds led to uprooted trees, flooded major roads, and significant traffic disruptions, as reported on Thursday.

Many areas of the city faced a sudden downpour lasting nearly an hour, causing trees and electric poles to fall, damaging parked vehicles, and flooding low-lying regions, which severely affected traffic during peak hours.

Tragically, seven victims, including a six-year-old girl, lost their lives when a wall at the Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital collapsed due to the intense rain.

Among the deceased were two students from Kerala who had sought refuge near the wall when it collapsed.

In another incident, a 35-year-old man named Raghu died from electrocution on Bannerghatta Road close to Vega City Mall.

Additionally, a student named Syed Sufiyan died in Yarab Nagar after he came into contact with a live wire while parking his motorcycle during the storm, as per police reports.

Another fatality occurred in Chamarajapet, where a man named Manjunath was killed instantly when a cement block fell through the roof of a house amid the storm.

The unexpected rainstorm caused widespread destruction throughout the city.

Authorities confirmed that 10 individuals have died due to incidents related to the rain, including wall collapses, electrocutions, and structural failures caused by the storm.

Civic officials reported that at least 87 trees were uprooted and 131 branches broken, significantly disrupting daily activities.

Of these, 60 trees and 98 branches have been cleared, while restoration efforts are still in progress.

Numerous vehicles parked along the streets were crushed by fallen trees.

Key intersections and underpasses were inundated, with the KR Circle underpass completely submerged, prompting police to set up barricades due to inadequate drainage.

The situation was exacerbated by fallen branches and stalled vehicles, leading to severe traffic jams that left commuters stranded for hours.

Officials noted that several buildings sustained partial damage in various locations, and the sudden nature of the storm caught many residents unprepared. Authorities have issued a rain alert for the upcoming three days.
