Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 594-kilometre-long Ganga Expressway in Uttar Pradesh on April 29, marking the completion of one of the country’s largest infrastructure projects. The expressway connects Meerut to Prayagraj and is expected to significantly improve connectivity across the state. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the project, whose foundation was laid in December 2021, has now been completed and opened for use.

The Chief Minister stated that the expressway is expected to contribute to sectors such as agriculture, employment, and regional development. He noted that more than one lakh farmers from 12 districts contributed land for the project, which spans key regions of the state. The development also includes 27 integrated industrial clusters and logistics hubs along the corridor, which are expected to facilitate investment and create employment opportunities.

Officials highlighted that the expressway is part of a broader infrastructure expansion in Uttar Pradesh, including highways, district roads, and rural connectivity projects. According to the Chief Minister, the state has significantly expanded its road network in recent years, improving interstate connectivity and linking district, tehsil, and block headquarters. He also referred to other transport initiatives such as rapid rail systems and freight corridors that are contributing to economic activity.

During the event, the Prime Minister participated in a plantation drive and visited an exhibition organized by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority, which showcased the expanding expressway network in the state. Several senior leaders, including Governor Anandiben Patel and Union ministers, were present at the inauguration. The expressway’s operational launch is expected to enhance mobility, logistics efficiency, and overall economic activity in the region.
