A Heartwarming Tale of Honesty

Auto rickshaw drivers often face negative perceptions due to issues like poor communication, unwillingness to go to specified destinations, and overcharging. However, not all drivers fit this stereotype. Many, like Kumar D, a 54-year-old auto driver from near KR Puram in Bengaluru, prefer to earn their living honestly.

Last Thursday, Kumar found himself in a situation that showcased his integrity. A passenger, Amit Kumar Pandey, 33, from Mumbai, accidentally left behind a bag filled with cash in Kumar's auto. Instead of succumbing to temptation, Kumar immediately set out to locate Amit and return the bag.

Amit had taken the auto from Cottonpet and got off near the Eidgah Maidan in Chamrajpet. After he exited, another woman hailed Kumar's auto, needing a ride to Srinagar. Upon entering, she noticed the forgotten bag and informed Kumar. Determined to return it, Kumar first dropped off the woman before searching for Amit.

Recalling that Amit was headed to a shop, Kumar went there and inquired about him. The shopkeeper helped by calling Amit, who soon arrived with the police. In the presence of the authorities, Amit checked the bag, discovering it contained a whopping ₹2.6 lakh.

Amit was overjoyed by Kumar's honesty and rewarded him with ₹3,000. Additionally, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Sanjeev M Patil was impressed by Kumar's actions, presenting him with ₹5,000 and a certificate of commendation for his integrity.

Amit, who works as a manager in a Mumbai company, was in Bengaluru to collect payments from clients. In his rush, he had forgotten the bag filled with cash, but thanks to Kumar's honesty, he was able to recover his money.
