Kobbie Mainoo has agreed to sign a new Manchester United contract.
The 21-year-old has enjoyed an excellent second half of the season in a Reds shirt after being handed a route back into the starting XI by interim head coach Michael Carrick. Indeed, Mainoo has been an almost ever-present for United since Carrick returned to Old Trafford, missing just one of the last 13 matches and that was through a minor injury.
He has formed a strong midfield partnership with Casemiro and it has helped United go on a run of nine wins and two draws in that time, a record that has moved the club up to third in the Premier League table. A 2-1 win against Brentford on Monday has put the Reds 11 points above sixth-place Brighton in the race for next season's Champions League.
And Mainoo is now expected to be rewarded for his recent form with a new contract, according to Fabrizio Romano. It's reported that the England international has 'agreed all terms' of a deal that is set to run until June 2031.
Mainoo is in line to receive a salary increase and United are poised make it official before the end of the 2025/26 season. It's added that the midfielder could even sign the contract in the coming days.
He is set to be the latest United player to commit their long-term future to the club, after Harry Maguire signed a new one-year deal with the option of a further 12 months earlier in April.
Mainoo produced another standout performance in Monday's win against Brentford and Carrick was full of praise for him post-match. "I thought on the back of the Chelsea game, where he was particularly good and showed similar things, with a bit of everything," Carrick said in his press conference.
"His build-up play, his taking of the ball, his creation and starting the attacks, he's so effective with that. But definitely, his duels, his 1v1s, recovery runs and back-tackling - over the last two games he's taken that up a level.
"It's great to see that he can do it. We know that he can do it. We're trying to give him more responsibility as the games go on. We're still not expected too much of him and understand and try to help him a bit, but he's doing great at the moment."
Mainoo and United are next in action when they host Liverpool on Sunday afternoon. A win for the Reds will guarantee Champions League football for the 2026/27 season.
