Nagpur/New Delhi: The echo of the firing that took place during President Donald Trump’s dinner party at the Hilton Hotel in Washington DC, the US capital, is now being heard in the political circles of India. Maharashtra’s prominent Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar, while referring to the attack on Trump, has given a controversial statement about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which has set the country’s politics on fire. BJP has expressed strong objection to this and termed it as ‘bloody mentality’ of Congress.

Wadettiwar’s controversial claim: ‘Such an outcome can happen in India too’

Vijay Wadettiwar crossed all limits while reacting to the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. He said that Donald Trump has caused huge damage to America to fulfill his dreams, so whatever happened there was bound to happen. Wadettiwar further compared the situation in India with America and said, “There people have come out on the streets in protest, but in India people are not coming out, which makes it seem that everything is fine. However, there is a feeling among the people that the country is going towards decline and in the coming days, a scene like America can be seen in India too.” His statement is being seen as a direct incitement of violence against PM Modi.

BJP’s counterattack: ‘Congress is the brother of hatred’

BJP has adopted a very aggressive stance on this statement of the Congress leader. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala launched a scathing attack and said that this is not Rahul Gandhi’s ‘shop of love’ but ‘brother of hatred’. Poonawala reminded that Vijay Wadettiwar is the same leader who tried to give a clean chit to Pakistan in the 26/11 attacks. He said that Mallikarjun Kharge calls PM a terrorist, Rahul Gandhi talks about beating him with sticks and now their leaders are predicting an America-like attack on the PM. BJP raised the question whether this is the intention of Rahul Gandhi also?

Split in opposition: D Raja shrugged it off

While on one hand the war of words is intense between BJP and Congress, on the other hand there was a lack of coordination in the opposition alliance regarding this statement. CPI General Secretary D Raja flatly refused to comment on Wadettiwar’s statement. He said that he would comment only on the statements of Kharge or Rahul Gandhi. Although, while referring to the Bengal elections, he appealed to the people to defeat BJP, but kept silence on the ‘violent statement’ of the Congress leader.

Trump’s threat and Kejriwal’s ‘Satyagraha’

Amidst this whole incident, the tension is not less on the international stage. Donald Trump has threatened Tehran (Iran) that if the conditions are not met, the oil-gas pipeline will be blasted. In India, in the liquor scam case, Arvind Kejriwal has announced not to appear in the court and will start ‘Satyagraha’. The political atmosphere is completely heated at the moment and Wadettiwar’s statement has added fuel to it.
