Whipping up fresh pesto is one of my favorite spring party tricks. It comes together in just a few minutes, packs a flavorful punch and never ceases to amaze dinner guests. While I’ve always made large batches in Cuisinart’s 14-cup food processorthousands of Amazon shoppers pull out the brand’s Mini Prep Plus Food Processor instead. With a 24-ounce (3-cup) capacity, this compact appliance is surprisingly powerful, but takes up far less room than full-sized models. Plus, it costs less than $40 with current discounts.

Beyond making pesto, shoppers have found plenty of other reasons to fall in love with Cuisinart’s petite food processor. One of the most popular uses for this machine is mincing garlic. In fact, one reviewer wrote that it accomplishes this chore in “mere seconds,” adding that “it will make your life so much easier.” A second shopper described it as “indispensable for small tasks.” Compared to other tools, they said, this appliance was the difference between “a Rolls-Royce and a Ford”—it’s that much better.

With just two settings for chopping and grinding, there’s no learning curve to using Cuisinart’s Mini Prep Plus Food Processor. The chop setting quickly breaks down onions, garlic and Parmesan, while the grind function is ideal for grinding whole spices and transforming nuts into nut butters. You can also pulse the blade in short bursts for more control.

Even though I’m the proud owner of a large food processor, I can’t help but think that my kitchen could benefit from this petite model. While less useful for big dinner parties, it’s way more practical for daily cooking tasks. My food processor would never be able to tackle a measly three garlic cloves because it’s so big, but the Mini Prep would break them down with ease. Since all components (except the base) are dishwasher-safe, cleanup would be practically nonexistent.

I’ve officially talked myself into buying Cuisinart’s Mini Prep Plus Food Processor while it’s 30% off at Amazon. It’s going to chop my garlic and onions so I don’t have to, and allow me to whip up a small batch of pesto with ease.
